What are the mechanics

Spend wiser overseas with your Metrobank World Mastercard!

  1. The lower Metrobank Foreign Currency (FX) Service Fee of 1.85% (“Promo”) is valid from January 29, 2024 to April 30, 2024 only (“Promo Period”).

  2. The Promo is open to all existing and newly-approved Metrobank World Mastercard principal and supplementary cardholders (the “Cardholder”) in good credit standing. Good credit standing refers to cardholders whose accounts are not delinquent, not under investigation due to suspected fraudulent activities, those whose Metrobank credit cards are not reported lost or stolen, and those who have not, otherwise, violated any of the Terms and Conditions Governing the Issuance and Use of Metrobank Credit Cards.

  3. To enjoy the Promo, Cardholders should use their Metrobank World Mastercard for their in-store and online foreign currency transactions and choose to have the transactions processed or billed in foreign currency other than Philippine Pesos within the Promo Period.

  4. Foreign currency transactions processed or billed in Philippine Peso at point of sale, whether executed in the Philippines, overseas, or online, shall not be eligible for the Promo.

  5. All eligible foreign currency transactions including the following fees, totalling 3.5%, will be reflected as one line item in the Statement of Account:

    • 1% Cross Border Service Fee, which represents the costs incurred to process the payment for the foreign currency transactions through the Card Network (i.e. Visa, Mastercard), acquiring bank and/or foreign merchant affiliates.

    • 2.5% Forex Processing Fee, which represents the costs needed by Metrobank to internally process the foreign currency transactions.

  6. Eligible customers can enjoy a reduction from the aforementioned 3.5% fee to 1.85% within the Promo Period, and will be reflected as a rebate. The rebate will be credited and shown as “FX Rebate Promo” on the next Statement of Account or not later than 60 calendar days from the posting date of eligible foreign currency transactions.

    *Transaction amount refers to purchases denominated in foreign currency converted to Philippine Peso using Mastercard/ Visa’s currency conversion rate at the time of posting or the prevailing foreign selling rate of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company on transaction posting date for the following currencies: US Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Japanese Yen, Euro, Singapore, Dollar, Australian Dollar, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Chinese Yuan, Swiss Francs, and Danish Kroner.

  7. Covered eligible transactions for rebate crediting are from December 11, 2023 until April 30, 2024.

  8. After the end of the Promo Period, all foreign currency transactions processed/billed in the local foreign currency will be reverted back to the 3.5% Fee.

  9. When travelling overseas, Cardholders are encouraged to notify Metrobank by calling the Metrobank Customer Service Hotline at (02) 88-700-700 for fraud management monitoring. Our Fraud Management Team may send you an SMS to confirm your transactions for the security and protection of your account.

  10. The terms and conditions governing the issuance and use of Metrobank credit cards, reminders and other provisions contained in the card carrier, statement of account, charge slips and other documents or instruments, which are made an integral part hereof by reference, shall likewise be resorted to in instances where they may be applicable in this Promo.

  11. The promo is non-transferable, non-cumulative, cannot be exchanged for cash or products and cannot be used in conjunction with any other discounts, promotions or fixed price items, unless otherwise provided.

  12. Metrobank reserves the right to disqualify any Cardholder from further participation in this Promo if the Cardholder defaults in his payment, or if in Metrobank’s judgement, the Cardholder has violated these terms and conditions, the terms and conditions governing the Issuance and Use of Metrobank credit cards and all related provisions of Metrobank’s Foreign Exchange program.

  13. In case of any dispute in respect of Metrobank only and the Cardholder’s availment of and eligibility for the Promo, the decision of Metrobank shall be considered final with concurrence of DTI.

  14. By joining or availing of this Promo, the Cardholder confirms that he/she has read, understood, and agreed to the promo mechanics and its terms and conditions.
