Metrobank and Amorsolo – Enduring love for Filipino culture and timeless values

METROBANK GROUP in partnership with the CRIBS Foundation, Inc. presents the Amorsolo Retrospective, a 4-month seven-museum art exhibition on the life and works of the first Filipino national artist Fernando Amorsolo.

The “His Art, Our Heart: Amorsolo Retrospective” is perhaps one of the most important undertakings involving the Philippine art scene in recent history.   More than just an art exhibition, this important project will enable people – from the academe to art enthusiasts to discover the influence of Amorsolo’s art.  At the same time, the exhibition hopes to imbibe among the youth and the rest of us, a deeper understanding of the relevance of culture and the arts to the development of our national identity.

“This is another step towards the development of the arts and we are happy to be part of this unique experience, said Metrobank president Arthur Ty.   “The works of Amorsolo reveal the Filipino’s unique culture and traditions, his sense of collaborative spirit, and love of his land.  I think it is also especially important during this time of globalization that we take a step back and appreciate what we have as a people that is unique as seen through the eyes of this great artist,” adds Ty.  Ty also mentioned that, “The Filipino values of hard work, community spirit, respect for women, creativity, and ingenuity are all reflected in the imagery of Amorsolo’s paintings.”

Amorsolo’s best paintings, illustrations, sketches, and drawings will be on exhibit at the Ayala, GSIS, Lopez, Metropolitan, National, Vargas and Yuchengco Museums from September to December 2008.  A Gala Dinner Benefit to launch the exhibitions will be held on September 19, 2008 at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel.

Proceeds from the Amorsolo Retrospective shall be for the benefit of the the Amorsolo Foundation, the CRIBS Foundation, and the seven participating museums.

The Metrobank Group has long been committed to the promotion and support of Philippine culture and the arts.  The Amorsolo Retrospective is being supported by the Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company, Metrobank Card Corporation, and Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation.

The group, through the Metrobank Foundation, organizes the annual art competition dubbed as the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence or MADE.  Now on its eighth year, MADE recognizes the outstanding works of young but promising painters, sculptors, architects, and interior designers.
